Marriage License Information.  Effective January 1, 2021.

• Marriage Licenses are by appointment only.  Please call 203-385-4020.

• Plan ahead and call at the minimum two weeks before your ceremony to obtain your marriage license. You may apply for a marriage license up to 65 days before your ceremony.

• You must be getting married in Stratford to obtain your license in Stratford.

• Before making your appointment, have the following information available:

  • The date of your wedding.

  • The name and contact information of the person officiating your ceremony.

  • Where you are getting married (the location/address).

• The Town Hall building is not a wedding venue and our staff do not perform any marriages or make arrangements for your ceremony. You should determine all the details with your officiant before contacting our office.

• Both parties to the marriage license must appear in person.

• Please present a valid, current, photo form of identification (driver's license, passport, et cetera).

• The Marriage License fee is $50.00. Payment options are cash, money order, or check. Please make check/money order payable to "Town of Stratford."

• Certified copies of your marriage record can be obtained by completing the "Request for Certified Copy of Marriage Certificate."  You will be given the request form at the time you apply for your marriage license. The fee for a certified copy is $20.
