The Stratford Library will reopen for Sunday service hours with “Sunday Afternoon Talks”, its series of informative and entertaining talks featuring prominent local guest speakers, on Sunday, October 1 at 2 pm. Two guest speakers, Christopher Soltis and Andy Kosch, will discuss local aviation history for the return of the popular series. It is free and open to the public.
Soltis will discuss the “History of the Connecticut Air & Space Center”, delving into the details of the 25-year-old Stratford organization. As its curator, Soltis will reveal the history and the struggle of operating an educational air museum. CASC Board Member Andy Kosch will discuss the astonishing career of local aviation pioneer Gustave Whitehead, believed to have been first in flight before the Wright Brothers.
Soltis is a lifelong student of aviation and military history. Having been involved with the Connecticut Air & Space Center since he turned 18, he has since risen to the ranks of curator and is a member on the board of directors. He continues to strive to enhance the exhibits and displays at the museum to better tell the tale of Connecticut’s proud aviation history. Kosch is a Founding Member of the CASC Board of Directors since 1998. He has a BA from Central Connecticut State College, an MAT from Fairfield University and an MS from Bridgeport University. He has a Private Pilot’s License and built his first Whitehead airplane in 1985 which he flew at Bridgeport Airport in December 1986.
