Columbus Day Sanitation Schedule

The Sanitation Division of Public Works WILL be working, Monday, October 14, 2024, Columbus Day, to provide uninterrupted collection of refuse, recycling and yard waste.  However, the Transfer Station on Watson Boulevard will be CLOSED on October 14, 2024.

Residents are advised that as of September 2, 2024, they must use the newly issued 96- or 64-gallon containers.  Only refuse or recycling contained in the new Town issued containers will be collected.  Refuse or recycling left loose next to the containers WILL NOT be collected.  This includes bags or cardboard.  Also, paint, oil or any other liquid should not be placed in your refuse or recycling containers.

Plastic bags can not be included in your recycling container.  This includes the special recycling bags that are currently being sold. The bags get stuck in the sorting equipment at the recycling drop off center causing the entire truck load to be rejected as contaminated.  We have been advised by the recycling drop off center not to accept plastic bags of any type from now on.

Residents are reminded that only grass, leaves in paper bags or cans, and branches no longer than 4’ and 1” in diameter tied in bundles or placed in the bags or cans will be collected with yard waste.  Plastic bags, plastic planters, dirt and rocks will not be collected.

Please note that the Town’s “Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day” will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2024 from 8 am to 1 pm at Stratford’s Public Works Yard - 550 Patterson Avenue.
